Community rules

Staple — last updated 23 August 2026.

Staple has one place where something you write is read by somebody else: a shopping list you share. These rules are for that text, and they are short because that surface is. What another person sees of yours is item names, amounts, a note on how to prepare something, the title of a recipe you added items from, and the name on your account.

The rules

Nothing unlawful either. That is in the terms, and it applies here too.

Share with people you trust

Anyone holding a live invite can join after signing in, and a member can forward the invite they received. Only share a list with people you trust. A list you have not shared stays private.

Reporting, and blocking

Wherever you can see something another person wrote — an item, a member of the list, whoever invited you — there is a Report and, separately, a Block. Anyone can use either, at any time.

A report is read by a person, and we answer it within 24 hours. Reporting somebody does not take you off the list and does not tell them you did it.

Blocking is yours and does not wait for us: it takes that person out of the lists you share, takes you out of theirs, and stops either of you joining the other's again. You can undo it, though undoing it does not put anybody back on a list.

You can also report anything by writing to hello@getstaple.app.

What happens to someone who breaks these rules

We can remove the content, take the person off the shared list, and suspend or close their account — without warning first, where what was written warrants it. There is no tolerance for objectionable content or for people who abuse other people, and an account closed for that stays closed.

If we get it wrong

Write to hello@getstaple.app and a person will look at it again. Say what was removed or reported and roughly when; we keep enough of a resolved report to review it. How long, and what it holds, is in the privacy policy.
